TE Tuning Husqvarna Fuel Injection - Tuning November 20, 2009, version Click pictures to supersize. IBeat Kit iBeat comes in 2 flavors now, version 1 and version 2. Version 1 is described below. You can set throttle position sensor voltage and three fedback values for different throttle ranges. Version 1 works on '08 and '09 models. Version 2 is not described on this page, but you can visit the and read all about it.
Version 2 uses 'adaptive feedback' of which I know nothing, but it seems much more sophisticated than version 1. Version 2 works on '09 and up models.
You can buy either version from most Husqvarna dealers; they are stock Husky parts. Version 2 can also be purchased at at a much more reasonable price than Husky retail.
4/25/08 - I saw a post on ThumperTalk about the iBeat fuel injection tuning kit and I ordered one from Bill's Motorcycle Plus (888-806-1153). The kit came today: what next? What's inside the box. A booklet (in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese): Introduction: safety procedures, prohibited acts, precautions, copyright, use restrictions, limited warranty, and liability notes. Product Specifications Install and Uninstall Procedures Starting the Software Failure Help Contact Information The DVD contains the iBeat software and Operation Manual (50 pages, pdf).
The communication cable has a serial connector on one end and a connector that plugs into the vehicle's diagnostic connector (located behind the headlight on the '08 TE610). There is a small black box in-line in the cable. I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5 and BootCamp with Windows XP SP2 installed. I plan to install the iBeat software on my MBP and will provide information about my tuning experiences on this page. 4/27/08 - This section describes what I did on my '08 TE610.
Another section will deal with my '09 TE310. I read the iBeat Diagnostic Tool (IDT) Operation Manual, all 50 pages, before starting to use the IDT software. Then I read it again. I am impressed with how much you can find out about the ECU and the 8 sensors that feed it, how you can easily generate maintenance logs, and how you can check for error conditions. Dekho dekho yeh hai jalwa remix mp3 free download. BUT, I'm NOT impressed with the changes you can make, which are exactly four. That's right, four.
You can set the mv level for the throttle position sensor (TPS). You can set three feedback adjustment values which relate to three throttle positions. You can't see or change anything to do with the actual ignition map, like change the shape of a curve. Although I don't know anything about fuel injection and ignition mapping besides the most basic of principles of how they work, I would have expected to be able to make more changes than I see in IDT.
But let's get back to the business at hand - installing and using IDT. I installed the IDT application from the DVD. Then I installed the driver for a Keyspan USB/serial adapter (USA-19H) on my MBP, configured the communication port, plugged the Keyspan adapter into a USB port on my MBP, plugged the iBeat communication cable into the Keyspan adapter and the TE610 diagnostic connector, turned on the ignition key, and started IDT. It tried to communicate then stopped with an error message. After checking everything twice and concluding that it was either right or it was beyond me to detect the problem, I started IDT again. Again, it stopped with an error message. After thinking a bit, I decided that the red button on the handlebar switch needed to be out, and after releasing it, I re-seated the diagnostic connector and restarted IDT.
Success - the screen came alive with information about my TE. I don't know if it was the red button out or the connector reseat that fixed it; I'll recheck on my next session. I ran through all the screens staring at the information provided, but otherwise made no changes. Finally, I decided to check the TPS. The reading was incorrect, so I changed it from 986 to 977 mv, all according to the instructions in the manual. Although I don't have access to a service manual for details about the process, I feel that what I did was correct. I'll pay real close attention to engine response the next time I ride my TE.
Both the IDT Operation Manual and the IDT application often remind you that you should read the service manual before making any changes to the parameters. I have repeatedly tried to get a 2008 TE610 Service Manual, but so far, have been unsuccessful. I have the '07 version, which pretty much covers everything on the '08 TE except fuel injection.
Free Software Download
Until I get an '08 service manual, I won't be making any more changes with IDT. Well, that's it for now. So far, I like what I bought, despite my disappointment with how many 'things' I can change.
I may find that what is there is all that is needed. I plan to study the various FI and iBeat posts on ThumperTalk and ADVrider and I'll try again to get a service manual to find out about FI tuning. Until then, the iBeat goes on. 1/27/09 - I have extracted some information about sensors from the 2008 DOHC Workshop Manual (for the TE 250, 450, 510, and SMR 510). Similar information for the TE 610 is available in the 2008 TE 610 Workshop Manual; see chapter M. The first list shows which components of the fuel injection system can be checked with IDT.
The second list shows electrical diagram components. Items in the second list with.n following the component description correspond to numbered items in the first list.
So you can tell at a glance where the fuel injection related items are located in the electrical system. Items numbered.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 correspond to sensors which feed the ECU. Items numbered.8, 10, 11, and 12 are controlled by the ECU.

Good free music download sites often incorporates a fair usage theme, and so do we. You can skip of to some other shady site, and download low quality compressed mp3 garbage, most likely stolen from some other place on the net. IBeat.org is a moderat high quality audio site – and while we don’t mind giving away these free instrumentals, the authors of the music, have not felt compelled to give away music for commercial use. And why should they. Formats of Instrumental Music Downloads Almost everything here on iBeat is available in lossless.wav (wave) as well as good quality mp3.
Some stream links use m3u – if you’ve downloaded some of the intrusmental music in this format, you’ve done something wrong. Be sure to get a hold of at least the mp3. We don’t want to get into religious discussions over formats. When we set out to save instrumental music (nothing less;)) we didn’t have the knowledge of propriatory formats / lossless audio and what not, that we have today. Org Vorbis, Flac and more are great options, but we don’t have capacity to change everything on a limb. Some day, we’d like to offer and instrumental music downloads in a wider range of formats. Also ready for your favorite sequencer or audio software (ie Acid, SoundFont and such).
Hopefully, you can be happy grabbing the.wav file and converting it to whatever you want.
So my footpeg mount repair is holding up so far, it is now time to address the running issues. A little recap: less than 1000 miles ago the 630 blew the head gasket while on the freeway and blew out the side of the cylinder and the head. It was still under warranty so we trucked it down to the dealer and they rebuilt the engine. Since we picked the bike up it has been very hard to start.
Once running, it runs like it always did. I assumed it was just because the engine was still 'tight' since the rebuild but after several hundred miles it is no better. It absolutely will not start in gear (even if it is fully warmed up and had just been shut off) and you have to crank on it for 15-30 seconds for it to start coughing, followed by more cranking, rinse and repeat, and eventually (usually) run. It does this with and without using the enrichment lever.
Once running it will idle (and ride) fine, but heaven forbid you stall in a precarious situation (which seems to be a common theme with both his 630 and my 690!) To me this seems like the same symptoms of a carbed bike with a lean pilot jet/ fuel screw. It ran fine before and no changes were made to the programming while it was at the dealer. Bike has had a DIY 'power up kit' installed since day 1. What should I be looking at/ for? I hear of people purchasing 'I-beat' and using JD tuners (which I've used on a Husky TE250) to clean up the FI, but that seems like something to pursue AFTER getting it back to running like normal. Is it possible that an out of adjustment TPS or something along those lines could cause this? The dealer refuses to make any changes to the programming (yep, this is CA!) and wants to charge for diagnoses even though this condition has only been present since they rebuilt it.
That's not even mentioning driving a few hundred miles each way to get it there, so we are hoping to solve this ourselves. Any helpful insight towards self-repair is appreciated! I suspect your buddy's bike is very lean.
Read the first three pages of my dyno thread here: If his DIY power up kit isn't right (or even if it is) it may be so lean that bad (or wrong octane) fuel caused the engine failure and will again if not corrected. Even with good fuel I contend these bikes may be lean enough on the big end to hurt themselves at sustained high rpm/high load conditions (like running 75/80 on the highway in top gear). If he has a relationship w/ the dealer and they have the iBeat software get them to set the fuel values to 110/110/118 and see how it runs. Or buy a Power Commander.
EDIT: sorry, just read the part about the dealer not adjusting. He needs to buy the iBeat dongle - $150 and you can pull codes/check TPS/set fuel. (Power Commander will also set TPS and comes with a proper power up plug.). I'm not entirely sure I'm following here.
I read through your link DynoBob and see that you are using PCV, but that you had no further gains when using Ibeat. Can I get the same results as PCV by just changing the 3 fuel settings with Ibeat? Is one system better than the other? Do I need both? Is the Ibeat software free (like tuneECU) and I just need a cable? If so, where do I buy it? Sorry for all the questions, but I have never done any real FI tinkering (as far as maps/ programming is concerned.).
Dynobob is kind of the guru here and I'm sure he'll come along shortly, but here's what I've learned on it. The iBeat software is downloadable from JTemple's drop box (cafehusky.com) and you need a cable - they are $150. This guy has them but I'm not sure where else to get them ( I really need to get one) You can buy the program and cable or just the cable. IBeat is able to set the fueling for low, mid, and high throttle openings with baseline at 100. So the figures he gives are what they have tested to produce the most horsepower throughout the range by dyno testing. You just can't change where those settings kick in - or the 'throttle-curve' as I understand it so that's where some other tuners come in. Like the JD Jetting one - I think it has 5 settings and replaces that part of the ECU function on the Mikuni EFI.
So in a word yes, all you need is iBeat to change the fueling and it works really well. Perhaps Bob can explain it further. Or read the rest of the threads on cafehusky about efi tuning on the mikunis. Click to expand.Expensive is relative though. Just be glad you dont own a KTM 690 as the Safari for that bike is $100 more than ours. $636.50 for a Safari tank w/locking gas cap delivered to your door is an unavoidable expense IMO if you want to do long rides away from gas stations. Carrying extra fuel in any other manner is not something I ever want to deal with.
If you're riding local and dont need the range then pump in only 2-3 gallons and you'll have your gas weight sitting lower than the stock tank. It is a quality product and eliminates the need for radiator braces/guards so you can factor that into the price. Click to expand. My riding buddies and I are FINALLY coming to grips with this. We have been so use to riding offroad/ mx bikes, that have to be 100% full to make a loop, we have been filling our dual sports to the tippy top too. Let me tell you, the 630 handles WAY different with 6.6 gallons on board vs the 2.5 gallons that I put in it last time out!
That 25lbs up high makes a big difference. I only fill the rear tank on my 690 on short/ local rides and while it isn't as noticeable as the 630, it does make a difference. Expensive is relative though. I have heard stories about bad surfaces for sealing the fuel pump, leaking and shiz. Oh and I already have radiator brace guards To the fellow who suggested the rotopax down low, is it necccessary to have them down low? I was thinking I would rather mount the 1.75 gallon one on the tail. (I have the brace kit from ebay installed on mine to reinforce the subframe).
